In my topic Cellars I got this very interesting post from Stoppage, Thanks Stoppage.

It was about basic defenses. Now as he noted there probably is a US manual on it. Having thought about it there is Its on mobility and Counter Counter mobility operations, I've read it but not recently. However it does prompt the question why on the scenes we see in Ukraine have we not seen much on counter mobility. There are lots of comments about Mines and the Ukraine version of Tank Defense pyramids that are not anchored down but work somewhat but no barbed wire or low level trip wire near defensive positions, anybody have a theory why not? .

Don't have the manpower to set up barbwire. Or have manpower for multi layer defense.

As for counter mobility, mobile units attract Drones and Artillery.

No easy answer or both sides would have done it already.

To set up a strong defense that will blunt an enemy attack effectively. You really will need time and as importantly assets. Counter-mobility will be the priority, Mobility will come into play if roads, bridges etc. have to be improved, etc. to get the assets into the area that is to be defended. Or to egress if the situation requires it.

Again the mission is to defend that has to be #1 …

but no barbed wire or low level trip wire near defensive positions, anybody have a theory why not?
Again do they have the manpower and assets for these types of obstacles ? And as noted drones can see pretty much anything you are doing until you can successfully neutralize that threat. Like air superiority.

Plus more effective obstacles would take priority over barded wire, tanglefoot, etc.

No easy answer or both sides would have done it already.
Bingo !
