I don't paint all too many metal figs, so wondered what people reach for when they can't use a spray can and have some priming to do.
Thanks,
Bob

Buy a small jar of brush on primer from Army Painter, Vallejo, Reaper, Tamiya, Howard Hues, or craft brand primers from box stores. I am sure there are others that I don't know about.

I've never used a 'proper' primer on any of my figures.

I normally use a coat of white/grey/black acrylic paint and I'm good to go.

I use Liquitex Grey Gesso.

I also have a giant bottle of white Gesso as well.

Works for me.

I've always used Humbrol Matt Black enamel, probably for over 30 years. Make sure you stir it very well before using though.

White Gesso. A good quality art store will have it. It's a big bottle. Comparatively expensive, but it will last you for yeeeaaarrrsss.

White gesso normally. Black for surfaces I'll paint in metallic colors like swords or armor.
