Hello. I used to have a very handy visual representation that detailed positions of companies in a French battalion in various formations, down to details of eagle bearers, various command on and off horseback, etc, in each formation with companies numbered. I can't for the life of me find that bookmark. It is possible it was in a video or book, but while memory is flawed I could've sworn it was a simple webpage or images. Think paint program colored blobs and rectangles. Does anyone have what I remember or something like it? I will take a book reference as well because I may have it or would pick it up. I'd really just like any solid reference for all of those details in visual form. Thanks very much. |

George Naziger's "Imperial Bayonets" is also a useful book for diagrams. link |

Probably you mean the flash animations made by Jakub Samek. Links to the commands of the école de peloton (you need flash to be able to see them): link And different changes of formation of the battalion: link Another visualisation of the movements of the battalion: YouTube link |

Thanks everyone. None of those are exactly it, but this is plenty and is great. I had never seen the Samek animations, the youtube channel was quite fascinating. Thanks for the book. Will have to sit down with it later. At a glance those plates are amazing. I had to sit and take in 33 for a bit. They don't make illustrations like they used to. |

It's interesting that most of the battalion maneuvers were still being used almost unchanged during the American Civil War. :) |
