What would you say is the best single volume on Vikings that is a must have for wargamers? Thanks in advance. |

The one fictional book I think is a must is the Long Ships. So many scenario possibilities and really catching the spirit of the Norse. |

I haven't read it, so a rather hypocritical suggestion, but Heimskringla. (Maybe someday I will.) I always liked Ian Heath's Armies and Enemies of the Dark Ages. Concise easy reading packed with info. And includes battle descriptions. |

I would recommend 'Vikings at War' by Hjardar & Vike. Translated from Norwegian. The 2016 book is 400 pp and deals with wider aspects of the Viking Age plus all aspects of warfare, routes, invasions, campaigns, strategy, tactics, equipment, clothing and weapons. It is available in paperback from Amazon for GB£15. Melvyn Jenkins- Welch in Miniature Wargames said; 'If you only buy one book on the subject it really should be this one. I cannot recommend it highly enough.' |
