All, Seems like I am always missing kickstarter campaigns or other crowdfunding campaigns for miniatures (15mm, 20mm or 28mm, etc.) that I would really like to have supported. When I go to randomly search kickstarter.com, seems like I am always too late or have to search through dozens or more that are not relevant (filter searches seem to be not helpful). Can anyone recommend a method to stay informed about them, learn about them, or even get advance notice of them before the campaign starts? |

Sign up to Kickstarter (i.e. get an account) and get updates to new campaigns in that area. You may have to choose a broader subject for the update (such as 'games' or 'miniatures') and then pick out what interests you. |

FYI: some businesses are using KS's to keep their doors open. After their KS closes, and they (hopefully!) fulfill all of the KS orders, those products sometimes dry up, and are no longer produced. In short, if you miss the KS, you may have issues getting the KS products later. This is more common with products which do not utilize casting molds, but it is still worth noting. GildasFacit's advice is your best option. Cheers! |

I have the same problem. I periodically just do a search on stuff like stl, 28mm, WW1, etc. |

Find a few things and join them. I participated in 2 kickstarters and get notifications on a semi-regular basis. You can join some kickstarters for just a dollar. I imagine this gets you on their notification list. |

I stay away from Kickstarters. I'll put down money when it's available. The Brigade Games Plains Wars Kickstarter is a prime example. By the time it was available to the general public, I had moved on to other manufacturers. Don't tease me. Don't use gimmicks. If they're already sculpted, put them up for sale. Don't give me nonsense about "The Washita Massacre stretch goals have been achieved!" The really ludicrous thing is that the goals have been accomplished within a week, but nothing is in production yet. I could go on… 🙄😄 |

I'm not interested in figures from Kickstarters but I do get games that way. Many simply would not reach the market at all if a similar sort of funding model was unavailable. True, some manufacturers are overusing the model and could easily invest their own cash to develop new ides, but it can grow into a good channel to connect potential buyers to innovative creators. In niche markets (like wargaming) it can give the boost a project needs. Be prepared for the risks and go with known creators, at least at first. So far I have had delays (mostly Covid related) but not one non-delivery in 20+ projects. |

Kickstarter has turned out to be great for 3D figure file. In many cases, the producers already have the main files all done, and generally those not yet finished arrive in a reasonable time. That being said I am still waiting for a poorly done file to be redone (as promised) from a year ago. But on the whole I'm pretty happy with the stuff I have bought through them – both figure and scenery. |
