I know lots of rules handle different things well and others poorly. For infantry combat in close terrain I really like chain of command but, I think it wouldn't do well with primarily vehicle forces in rolling but otherwise open terrain.
What rules handle this well? My only other recent (last decade) experience is with I ain't been shot mum (again I think leans towards the infantry fight with vehicle support) and command decision (that steps up from individual vehicles to platoons). Long ago I played some Battlefront WW2 and some Flames of War (which for all its faults might fit this bill? Third edition is what I played, it pretty much shut down locally with fourth.)
Thanks in advance
Phil

Battlegroup Torch would suit as a 1:1 system, complete with a couple of LRDG scenarios.

Tally Ho!

Arc of Fire (my preference) or the older Battleground WW2 from easy 8 would be ok with mainly AFV's.
What a Tanker from 2 Fat Lardies might be good & fun ruleset for this as it pretty much only uses AFVs and uses dice in a similar role as CoC.

I'll second Arc of Fire.

One story about BGWWII: I played in an SAS/LRDG BGWWII game at the one Historicon I went to back in 2006. Fortunately for me, I was on the British side. What I would say about the guys who played the Italians is they should have received an award for sportsmanship. You see, BGWWII uses a D20 system, so they can have lots of modifiers. So in BGWWII, green troops, which the Italians were, have an extra bad modifier to hit. IIRC, it's a +mod since you wanted to roll low, and it worked out the Italians pretty much needed to roll a 1, or maybe a 1-2 at best, to hit us. Might be realistic, but it really wasn't much fun for them.

There is us:-

The main thing is the rules are aimed at dealing effectively with vehicles, their strengths and limitations, not just as a poor bolt on for an infantry game. By definition they are designed to cope with wider open spaces.

To be honest proper vehicle games need to be in 1/144 or at a push 6mm as vehicles are massively disadvantaged at very short (less than rifle range) conditions. This is why AFV's don't work in skirmish games realistically, they are general in the wrong place.

Even the US noted a Bren Carrier should not be deployed closer than 400yds to the enemy as it will be no more effective at closer ranges.

Its 1:1 but infantry are non section bases not individual bases generally.

It's basic system is different to the basic clones of Featherstone and is a unique form of IGOUGO optimized for fast play and vehicular operations but works fine for Combined ops with infantry.

While the mechanism and rules all apply to WW2 we don't really currently do lists for WW2 (there is one list in the rulebook). However a feature of the game is that you can write the specs for the vehicles based on real world data

As always load the free stuff and have a look first.

If you don't find anything satisfactory, consider bastardizing a coastal forces naval rules set instead.

Fast moving vehicles/vessels over largely featureless terrain armed with weapons that aren't capable of obliterating their likely opponents, just disable. Rifles, machine guns small cannons AT rifles/LAA MAA guns light cannons. The only real diversion being when the crews dismount. Boats vs. Shore installations v. vehicles v. outposts.

HMS Exeter – Excellent OOB thinking!
