Great story. Set me thinking about generals and admirals US that I could name killed in WWII. I did badly. Buckner obviously, Okinawa. McNair bombed by "friendly fire" at Operation Cobra. Henry Fonda (sorry Gen Roosevelt) but that was coronary artery disease. Patton? No post war and an RTA. Admiral Kidd at Pearl Harbor. Ashamed to say I got no more, but then went to Google. Rose was indeed the highest ranking US officer killed by the enemy in Europe. |
