Just wondered if anyone has picked up a box of the WA Renaissance Heavy Cavalry. I am curious about whether this set has the older horses that are huge or the newer smaller (but not small) horses. Also, do you think these figures would work well for the Great Italian Wars? I get the feeling that they are designed for a slightly later period. They do look nice.

I'm waiting for my box of light cavalry to arrive, but the pictures of half armoured cavalry on barded horses firing pistols, does look a little incongruous to me.

I shall wait for feedback from others before making any purchase though.

The Great Italian Wars covers quite a long period. Forr the later period like Ceresole (1544) I'd have thought they'd be fine (with some judicious choice of which options to use). Not so much for Pavia and earlier.

I believe some gendarmes were still using horse armour at the start of the Wars of Religion so I guess the armoured horse options would be more applicable for the lance rather than pistol armed cavalry.

Thanks for your thoughts. You've both confirmed my own suspicions. The WA figures to me look ideal for the French Religious Wars of the later part of the 16th century. Maybe Ceresole and perhaps early 17th century as well. I agree that these figures don't feel to me as right for the early and middle part of the Great Italians Wars.
