I got a bunch of painted lead in a pile of boxes of Naps I acquired. there are a good dozen war of 1812 American units.

One bunch said "West Point Cadets" and had a dark blue jacket with red facings and bicorne hats.

I'm wondering if this is for real, and if ANY unit was wearing a bicorne at this point? I know the generals and such did.

They could have been in the wrong bag. They could be 1805 Prussians. I'm not sure yet, but thought I'd ask!

Thanks!

The West Point website says that is the appropriate uniform for cadets from 1802 until after 1814. Your figures are correct.

Welp! Blow me down… Can you gimme a link?

Actually, I will have to check out if there's any pics somewhere, as I thought their uniform was always grey, and I may need to touch up these figs a bit, they're a little rough looking.

Thanks!

There were two artillery units that had bicorne hats on the Yankee Doodle side.

Also, Massachusetts militia artillery had bicornes as well.

There is a school pf thought that American infantry officers sometimes wore bicornes in the field, although my casual perusal of the internet came up with little evidence beyond reenactors.

I'm not having any luck with my web searching.
