Impressive terrain making. I shy away from this approach as: 1) the amount of effort is consierable; 2) the finished boards are really limited, as they never change, so you end up repeating, replaying, the same board, again and again. I chose a more modular approach, wherein my terrain pieces sit atop a more generic styled board, which allows for near infinite composition by adding/removing/changing location of my terrain pieces. My approach is always less impressive, but it is vastly more functional and variable.

I chose my compromises, and I stick to them. As long as the owner/players are having fun, nothing else matters. Cheers!
