There seems to be a consensus, Russian curassiers wore leather gaunlets, but what about dragoons? I noticed Perry miniatures has dragoons wearing gauntlets in their metals, however, their Allied Cavalry do not show that option. Maybe it is because of the arms are meant to be used with the other types. In addition, did Russian mounted jagers, hussars or uhlans wear gauntlets, gloves, or just bare handed? Reason suggests at least the latter two would wear leather gauntlets or at least thick gloves, given the use of the lance in combat. |

Good question, but rarely does any figure I have actually show wearing gauntlet or leather gloves. |

Russian cuirassiers and dragoons (heavy cavalry) used protective gloves with gauntlets (white leather) for the hands. Other cavalry did not use them. White gloves without protective properties made of thin leather could be worn (especially by officers). |

There is a period drawing of a Russian lancer I have seen and he is clearly not wearing gloves link |

Cuprum2, I was thinking along similar lines, given the numerous miniature manufactures which show the heavy/"medium" cavalry with buff gauntlets. However, it does seem, (to me at least), counter intuitive to hold a lance without any sort of hand protection, unless the lance was used more as a spear, rather than at a true charge with intent at maximum impact, horse, rider and all, and that may just be my misunderstanding of lance use/tactics. So my curassiers and dragoons will have gauntlets, and my plastic Perry's will need some green stuff, which was surprisingly easy to wrap an sculpt…any imperfections just look like wringles in gloves! |

Good plan as the lance thing makes sense That being said the Russian military has been known to make some bone-headed non-common sense mistakes – like not giving soldiers glasses because a near-sighted young man should be able to see well if he just tries hard enough – which was the case until well into the Cold War |
