I have two coffee trees, but they're kinda too big to put on the gaming table… ;-)

As a non-drinker, I am uite puzzled at what use they would be to wargaing/modeling…

Coffee grounds can be used in place of ground tea leaves, for flocking. I've tried them in the past, but they grew fungus on them, over time.

I never baked them, to kill all organisms within them -- that might have helped prevent the mold growth. I tend to steer away from most organic materials, due to their potential for growing fungus, and other things, over time.

I use sand, harvested from different beaches, but I wash it in a Zip-Lock plastic bag, with hot water and dish soap, to remove as much dirt, as possible. Then, I bake it at 300 F, in my oven, for 30 minutes, to both dry it out, and to kill any organisms which might have survived the washing stage. I've never had a biological issue with sand, in 20+ years. Cheers!

I've used coffee grounds as "dirt". Works well for me. Between the super glue I stick it in place with and the clear acrylic coat I put over the whole model and base, I figure I won't get any fungus.

For war gaming no, but coffee grounds are a daily ritual as I use a stove top coffee pot.
