Nothing kills like overkill. My two cents.

They did their job.

Is there an equation?

Given the difficulty in identifying the extremely high value, high priority target at a specific time and place, I doubt any reasonable planning would take the slightest risk of not using enough force.

Gray Bear01 Oct 2024 11:54 p.m. PST

They had one opportunity to get Nasrallah so why not throw everything at him? Had the first try failed, there would not have been an opportunity for a second. After all, it's not like Nasrallah was being protected by the US Secret Service.

I'm reminded of a shootout that got caught on a police dash cam. It was a routine traffic stop. 2 cops were chatting amiably with a family in their car when a man exits the far side of the vehicle and starts shooting at the cops without warning. The family is caught in the crossfire, but no one got hurt.

The perp had a loooong clip pistol, and the cops ran out of ammo quickly. While cop 2 was trying to evade the perp, cop 1 reloaded and got the drop on the attacker. He shot the attacker 16 times.

Anticipating criticism for the number of shots fired, at the news conference, the sheriff said.

"Evil can never be dead enough."

There is no such thing as overkill. There is only Open Fire and Reloading!

Always use overwhelming force. Fair fights are the result of improper planning.

Israel's intelligence on enemies, and their plans as executed (sorry for the pun, couldn't think of another word for it), was impressively accomplished. I used to work as a Pager Technician, repairing them. I also worked as an Electronic Technician doing component level repairs. Planting explosives within pagers, and walkie-talkies, was astoundingly brilliant, and they pulled it off, impressively with phenomenal coordination -- that is one for the history books! Frankly, they wrote a new book on warfare with what they achieved. Looking at it from a military perspective, it was incredible. Again, the intelligence, the planning, and the fulfillment of the plan, was astounding. The word, Brilliant, is not sufficient to express how well they performed. Amazing what Israel has achieved. Cheers!

Seems many agree … Making sure the target(s) are "terminated with extreme prejudice" …

And besides we are talking about islamic Arab terrorists …

To paraphrase an old saying, "The only good islamic terrorist is a dead islamic terrorist."

Regardless, that is the reality currently … the GWoT continues. If dead leaders are replaced … they will be killed too, by our Allies or the US. ☠☠☠☠

Remind me to NEVER buy a Hawuei or other Chinese manufactured cell phone! Maybe we should use bomb sniffers to safety-check all Chinese made devices!

So 80 JDAMs and just one KIA…?

microgeorge02 Oct 2024 6:22 p.m. PST

They killed more than just the gig guy.

LostPict02 Oct 2024 7:03 p.m. PST

I just took a Navy Weaponeering course. This could have been our open book exam. JDAMs, when you want to send your very best.

Yes, there were a number of his staff, etc. that died with him.

You need to use whatever you need to make sure you get the job done.

…plus 10%. Just to be sure.

Of course it gave some American officers "raised eyebrows". We like to give the enemy a reasonable chance.
After all, if we had done it Israel style at Tora Bora, we might not have had the fun of spending ten years, and all those lives and billions of dollars chasing Osama Bin Laden.

Ben once again +1 …

Also, a report I heard today said Nasralla's probable replacement was attacked by IDF air assets in Beirut. I'm awaiting a BDA … but he and some of his minions are probably dead …

If not … they will be …

May be but my comrades that I served with. Overkill was fine if the ammo was available … the enemy should be given a 0 chance. That is the way we were trained.

Again, most of the senior Officers and NCOs in the units I served with were in Vietnam. Sometime more than one tour … We learned from many that not only saw the elephant … but killed it …
