Anybody got good pictures of the 60mm mortar on the Merkava. The Mk 1 started out with the gunner exposed, I have never seen a picture of it but apparently the gunners got shot in the waist using it so later on the Mk 1 had extra protection for him.

The more numerous Mk 2 had it fitted under armor from the get go, anybody got pics? It was designed to take on anti tank positions so how many rounds were typically carried and in what natures.

Thanks in advance Brian.

Good question, Brian. The Merkava 4 has the mortar mounted inside: "The tank is fitted with 7.62mm machine guns and an internally operated 60mm mortar system developed by Soltam Ltd. The mortar can fire explosive and illumination rounds to a range of 2,700m."

Got that from here: link

Hope that helps- close but no cigar though.

Thanks, interesting that this give the mortar a 2700m range, elsewhere I have seen up to 3500m which did seem a bit unreasonable.
