Been seeing things about Paul Sawyer bring ill. Apparently his family has a go fund me or such for treatment. Fair enough. My knowledge of the lead belt obviously leaves a lot to be desired. Paul worked for GW, the biggest?? Wargames company in the world. He then co founded Warlord?? And was still working there until now?? I wouldn't have ever guessed they would need money. Insurance, company shares, savings, sell the yatch. I know it's me. I guess GW must be run by a halfling in a big hat, when you pull back the curtain. My fantasy of Willy Wonka style rivers of alloy and actual trolls taking orders, shattered. Oh, well. Hope he gets better. Now it's back to whipping my painting monkeys. "You missed a mould line! No bananas for you!" |

Paul's condition sadly means that he doesn't have very long left. If it was a member of my family I would want their final days to be as comfortable and 'normal' as possible. I imagine that you would feel the same. The family did set up a funding page to get some adapted equipment quickly (much of what Paul needs is not available on the NHS; what is, does not always arrive in a timely fashion). Unfortunately a number of individuals have been impersonating Paul's family and also Warlord. They have been asking for money directly. These are a scam. The family have stopped accepting donations as a result. Warlord have a figure that they are selling as a fundraiser for a brain tumour charity. Knowing that Paul's life is very limited, I must say that your post is somewhat tactless. Healthcare in the UK works very differently to Aus, and the US. |

Apparently his family has a go fund me or such for treatment. Fair enough. That's up to you but I would think the Socialized Medicine has him covered. He may be a business owner but it's not the Wargame Industry outside GW is that profitable |

Grossly offensive thread. Nuke it, Bill. |

AND what business is it of ours…. To be fair, when a public appeal is made for help, then the matter becomes a public matter, does it not? Knowing that Paul's life is very limited, I must say that your post is somewhat tactless. You assume facts not in evidence, as they say. The original poster may not have known that Paul's condition is terminal. Grossly offensive thread. Nuke it, Bill. Don't read it, don't get offended. I believe the original poster was simply wondering why someone who worked at some of the largest gaming companies would need charity. And others have explained that the gaming industry does not pay as much as one might imagine. Also, those outside the UK might assume that 'everything was covered' by the healthcare system, but as others have explained, that is not how it works. |

The reality is that folks in the miniatures and wargaming industry don't make that much money. There's an old saying the table top gaming industry- If you want to make a small fortune in the games industry, first start with a large fortune. Can you make a living? Sure. Will you be having caviar dreams while sleeping on your yacht? Not a chance. Most 'successful' people in the business make enough to pay their monthly bills and make do. Beyond that is rare. It still beats flipping burgers and lifting heavy items all day long. |

I've had second hand shame at some of the postings on this site, but this one takes the cake. May God bless him and his family in their trying times. |

Lighten up, people. OP was asking a question, maybe not as tactfully as possible, but in no way offensive. Wished Mr. Sawyer gets better, so I'm guessing he did not know of terminal condition (nor did I). |

I've had second hand shame at some of the postings on this site, but this one takes the cake. I suppose you feel shame for what your fellow human beings are doing in Ukraine and Gaza too? Also for the criminals, human traffickers, abusers, and people who fail to say 'thank you' when you hold the door for them? It is said that we should love our enemies. Or at least give people the benefit of the doubt. |

This is a problem of someone casting aspersion on a person just because they may have been associated with Games Workshop, the company that historical wargamers love to hate. They can't handle the fact that GW products dwarf historicals in popularity on a global scale, therefore they must be evil. Yes, the original post was crass and cruel. There have already been other postings about Mr. Sawyers unfortunate condition. Mr. Sawyer has been a great credit to the hobby, including historicals! |

Do they have hospice care in the UK? Here in the US, hospice are non-profits and will bring in needed equipment right away. At least, that's been our experience. Downside of our hobby is that it's a sedentary one. We need to take better care of ourselves. |

Yes, there's hospice care in the U.K. provided, largely, by charities though there's some taxpayer funding too apparently. I understand that demand outstrips supply meaning that getting support quickly can be an issue. FWIW, I thought that the OP's comments were in poor taste. |

Another +1 Deucey. This is a cringy post, and simply not something that a gentleman would talk about in a public forum. |

This is a problem of someone casting aspersion on a person just because they may have been associated with Games Workshop… Where did anyone cast an aspersion on him? I think he was just wondering whether someone who was at GW in the beginning wouldn't have come away with a small fortune. However, life doesn't always work like that, particularly in the game industry. |
