Time frame – 1815.
Nationality (eventual) – Brunswick (1st Line Battalion).
Size – Around a dozen or so at least, more would be better.

During the 100 Days campaign, the 1st Line Battalion was attended by the former court orchestra of Jerome Bonaparte in his role as ruler of Westphalia. I am keen to reproduce this as a vignette for a Black Powder event next March (vignettes add a one-off dice roll/re-roll for a specific action and there is a prize for the best one).

What I have looked at – and rejected – so far:

* Warlord's Imperial Guard band – ridiculous levels of conversion work required.

* Minifigs British Infantry band – too small ("true" 25mm).

* SEGOM (still around?) – ditto

* Dixon ACW – too small AND coats too long (although the laced fronts were a good "fit").

Cannot find anything on the 3DP front. Help appreciated.

I believe that Warlord games have a French Napoleonics band.

Were the court musicians uniformed (and if so in Brunswick uniforms or old Westphalian uniforms?) or in civilian dress?

Thanks for the replies so far…..

Pwince Whupert – it's not clear; there is a colour plate that shows a standard Brunswick uniform, with the characteristic Germanic "swallows nests" and some lace, but verbal references suggest that the uniform was not issued until after Waterloo. I would have thought that, being the Westphalian ruler was a Bonaparte, there would have had to have been some sort of glamorous (and economically excessive) uniform.

Also rejected, despite having the OFM's seal of approval, is the von Kleist band from Foundry's SYW Prussian range, as they are dressed like moonlighting bouncers from a Turkish brothel.

Trent Miniatures has some usable musicians, based on depictions of the band of the British Foot Guards in Paris, post-Waterloo, that would not involve too much conversion work; unfortunately, there is only a percussion section and a drum major – just not enough.

And cavcrazy – did none of your teachers ever tell you to read the question before answering it? I even gave you two chances!!!

All I can think of are the musicians in Eureka's SYW Saxon range: link But I suspect these fall into the "too much conversion work required" bucket. And they are quite small/slender figures as well. But I suspect these are the only figures on the market that are playing oboes and bassoons.

My dear Baron, do you have no conversion capabilities?
A sharp blade, some figure putty, and some reference material goes a long way.
That being said, if not you, I am sure there are many out there who can help with such a task. My thought was it was a band, at the very least. Good luck.

Baron von Wreckedoften II06 Oct 2024 10:51 a.m. PST

Yes, but it was a band I had already rejected because it looked so unlike what I was aiming to achieve as a final result.

Apologies for being abrupt, but people not reading the question properly was the bain of my former existence.
