I have received a fair number of positive comments since I painted a backscene board for my 'small space' wargamiing table. I'm quite pleased with how it helps to create a sense of perspective. I'm playing AWI in 15mm scale.
Cheers
Lee.

How big is it?

Bill, I'm only playing on a small table set up but would work well on a 4' or 5' wide table too I think.

I've used them in photos, but during actual games, they tend to be in the way. Depends on the set-up, I should think.

I have a friend who will take pictures during a game, and he has a backscreen that he only uses when he actually takes the picture. I think a backscreen makes the pictures look great, as for having them up during a game, I agree, they do get in the way.

What material did you use to make the screen?

They used to sell longish rolls of pre-printed scenes for railroad lay outs.I bought several but don't remember where they are! It turned outs they were in the way for games unless you have your table against wall, as did the OP. His is very nice.

Have used some for photos

But as noted not in gaming

And for the backdrop it is actually a rural scene on my big monitor I downloaded from the web

Only in photos, and then not very well.

Thank you for the comments. I understand how it can indeed get in the way for bigger games and would not be a requirement. My own games are played on a 750mm x 750mm table placed against a wall and played solo from the front only so the backscene works for this. My goal is to be able to film and present games on a blow by blow basis with explanatory text and narration for my YouTube channel so aesthetics are important to me.

Bill. the material is just two layers of 5mm foamboard glued together to help stop warping then Acrylic Ultramarine thin blue washes (darker at top) patches of pure white wet in wet and rubbed with a sponge to blend then Veridian for the grassy hills at bottom. A quick job and I'm no artist but works for me :)

Yes indeed, inspired by model railway/railroad layouts.

Cheers,
Lee.

Sort of:-

Not being a boring old wargamer, we use complex tables with partial dividers to give a far more interesting terrain with lots of options. The internal table edges are nowdays N Gauge backdrops gluded to card dividers with 3D printed support clips.

We did use my hand painted versions originlly but they were nowhere near as good as your's, so went for photos designed for the job.
