So I'm traveling the UK recently and visited Blenheim Palace. Of course that leads to Marlborough and the WSS. So I bought a box of the Walord Grand Alliance infantry. These plastics are really good! Minimalist detail but all the right stuff is crisp and takes paint well. I would definitely do an army of them but I'd need both sides, and I have other projects. |

Welcome to the World of WSS! I play 15mm and have French, Bavarians, Dutch. British, Prussians, Savoyard, Danish and assorted Germans. Of course my shrink assures me I'm not obsessive. It is a terrific period. |

I did it in 15mm. I had some Essex lead laying around. So that was the British done. Yes, I should have painted allies, but hey, the point was I wanted red coats… I then bought a load of Roundway Down French. At the time they were dirt cheap from Navwar. Nice castings, quick to paint. Did I mention cheap? British flags I printed off the ‘net. French I copied from Funken (mine have cast on flags) British & French uniforms were from Funken & the Grant book, Armies & Enemies. Oh and the two Caliver books on the WSS uniforms. Helion now have a few books on uniforms that may be of use.

I am currently building up 15mm WSS armies, mostly using Minifigs, Dixon and Roundway miniatures. I can't remember where I purchased all those Roundway figs but it might have been Navwar, maybe 8 years ago. I know I can no longer get the Roundway guys, too bad because I like them. Fortunately, I bought pontoon bridging equipment. Now it's a matter of painting the units. Curremtly, I'm working on planning some allied cavalry squadrons. I think the regiments represented will be two British, one Dutch and one German. For the German cavalry, I'm considering Hanoverian Horse, resplendent in their white coats. They apparently were one of the first to adopt coat turnbacks, so I was thinking of using 15mm Dixon Great Northern War cavalry. I believe those cavalry figures have turnbacks. Yes, most certainly one thing leads to another! Cheers!

The Grand Alliance infantry are incredibly useful for conversion, etc. – I liked the old Wargames Factory 36-fig boxes better, but they are still plenty useful |

This is great therapeutic support. I thought this only happened to me. I've now started intentionally avoiding some historical sites, books, or movies until I am ready to be immersed in the period. So now about my recent trip to Sweden and new found interest in the great Northern war.. |

Yes, it can be a very expensive proposition for a miniature wargamer to travel, or to read outside the scope of his existing armies. Since retirement, I've tried very hard not to bring home any castings which can't be integrated into existing forces. They tend to recruit. |

Between Helion Books Century of the Soldier series and those delightful minis (originally from the good folks at Wargames Factory) I have spent a pile of money building up my armies. I love the minis and the period. |
