Started using O-Group rules for early Cold War, first game was Borduria invading one of its hapless neighbours, who were defended by a Wild Geese style group of mercenaries. I doubt we're doing much very different to other playing Imagi-Nation tinpot countries but I'd be interested in how others do it. In essence you choose the tanks, tranport and weapons you want, design your camo / uniforms, organise it your way and asset your right to rule. We're sticking to late 1950's right now, and you can't have kit later than c 1955. O Group is a c Reinforced battalion sized game, so its 3 companies plus other stuff tacked on, a handful of tanks/armour each. Right now its Balkans based (Borduria and Enemies) but I'm sure African and South American armies will follow. |

The old GDW Striker system includes vehicle design rules for vehicles (the sample in the rules is a Panther) that can give you quite a range of vehicles and aircraft. |

Another vote for Striker's design system. It also lets you design artillery. |

that's quite interesting. Why 1955 as the cut-off? Were there certain equipments you wanted specifically to avoid? |

Not really re avoid post 1955, just these are tinpot armies so won't have the latest "first tier nation" kit. Maybe a better rule is "you can't have first line inventory in any great power's army", or discount WW2 stuff points wise We're not modding vehicles or designing our own, just using what one could get from Honest Abdul's Army Surplus Tank Emporium in Istanbul sort of thing. Mix n Match. There was also quite a lot of of pre/early WW2 stuff lying around after WW2 in the Balkans / North Africa etc. But I do need to look at GDW Striker system for one sub project I have, its the "what if" Czechoslovakia was able to build the tanks on the drawing board in the early 50's |

Freecloud, Great stuff. I have used O group with the FFL in Africa and had a great time. If you want some background on the combatants, uniforms and camo the FoF book " Bush Wars" is great. Osprey also has multiple books on the subject with armies of the congo (book 4) the most interesting. Everyone fought in the congo including the Irish. Your armor is easy as well. Most countries fell either with the West or East and had cast off equipment along those lines. My favorite is using M8 greyhounds. Enjoy Joe |

I'm pretty sure the tank and anti-tank gun in "The Calculus Affair" predate 1955. Striker lets you do aircraft, too. Frank Chadwick is a effin' genius, I hope we both live long enough for me to play "Breakthrough." |
