I concluded Part 2 of my massive cavalry battle between the heavy elements of the Prussian and Russian cavalry. No infantry in the battle, nothing but cavalry. Click on the link to my blog for the full story and more pictures.

Cavalry bring a touch of class to what would otherwise be a pointless brawl.

Beautiful looking game.

Lovely horses, both the sculpting and the painting!

More of a brawl than a battle, Jim? Lovely figures and well painted, mate.

Interesting ideas about your rules which you aired in the account. People will always argue over how long it takes horses to recover, and show plenty of evidence for their claims. To simulate exhaustion of the horses and riders, instead of having a "recovery period", have you thought about just limiting the number of times a squadron can charge? Or is that too much book keeping?

Dal, an interesting idea. My units tend to get chewed up badly after a couple of melee rounds and most are render useless after a melee. So maybe the problem fixes itself.

Which is fairly much what happened in history, mate. One of my pet peeves is when rules allow the last two figures in a cavalry unit to make their 10th charge of the game.

I use six stand squadrons of two figures and when it is reduced to two stands then I remove the unit from play.

I still use Grant's rules, Jim, and (as you probably know) they use a similar mechanism, with units being withdrawn once they lose >=50% of their strength.
