a man v's food challenge?

For those who don't know the format – a man goes o a restaurant and tries to win a t-shirt by eating one of:

- a huge pile of carb's – say 4lb of fries plus some bread and a pile of meat
- a small amount of meat covered in a ridiculously large amount of super hot chilli sauce
- a huge pile of something possibly also covered in chilli sauce with a ridiculously short timescale
- 6lb of icecream, with very little time. maybe washed down with a homemade icecream based milkshake…and fries, why not, fries with everything

Here's the list: link

No. I am not a glutton.

I believe this activity is viewed more as a sport….

I ate a balut … that should count for something. Do you get a t-shirt for caving in to peer pressure? (Actually, they werren't peers, but it was definitley a, "Awwww … c'mon, be one of us" thing.)

I've also eaten tons of very spicy stuff. Usually, the award I got was the acknowledgement that "You ain't from around here, but you're OK." in order to get served a local level of spicy.

Not as a mature(?) adult. In my college days, however, my room mates and I put a serious dent in a number of buffet restaurants' profitability.

I did see a documentary about a chap who was getting lifetime bans from all the restaurants in Dallas that had an "all you can eat" offer.

He went in when they opened, and he stayed to close the place. And he never ate there again….

I did eat pickled shark in Iceland and followed it with a shot of Brenevin.

Yes, I ate the "Woodsmanburger" at a Vermont restaurant.

When it arrived two bearded locals scoffed that I hd even considered it. That gave me the pressure to eat every bit, and every one of the pile of french fries.

I did not puke, either.

No – I remember watching an episode of Man Vs Food with Adam Richman with No 4 son when he was just a wee lad – No 4 son looked up, said "he is completely nuts" and I have to agree with him

"Sheltered" only if you measure in terms of overburden, 20th. Possibly you meant to say "sane" or "civilized?" They wouldn't be true either, but they'd be closer.

Yes. Did a spicy chicken wing challenge. 6 wings coated in the two hottest sauces they offered with a side of the hottest sauce for dipping. Had to keep it down and not drink anything. 10 minutes after last wing got food free and free ice cream. It was hellacious

@smithsco – that is something I am pretty sure I couldn't do!

Probably like most people I look at the giant pizza or the ridiculous burger and think "yeah, probably" and probably I would fail. But the super hot chilli sauce I wouldn't even consider!

Did it taste good? Or just really made you appreciate the ice cream?

I was at Buffalo Wild Wings once and ordered nuggets and their hottest rated sauce. It tasted horrible. Burnt. No flavor palette. Just a bunch of random stuff thrown together with no concept of complimentary taste.

So I asked for the Thai Mango Sauce instead. It's not Thai hot, bor is it a flavor I've had in Thailand. But it's spicy (I think their 8 of 10) and the peppers compliment the mango flavor.

The waiter was like, "Ohhh … too hot for you?" Which is an odd attitude to be taken by someone who gets tips for service. Also not true. I wasn't too hot. It just tasted like burnt dirt.

I was like "No, I just don't like it. And I know I like the Thai Mango."

"Sure." Again … tips?

So I took one of the sauce cups and did it like a shot. I made a face, but I wasn't panting and crying from the heat. "No, it's just foul."

He didn't commet after that.

The point being, yes, 20thmaine, you can taste a rich flavor palette behind the capsaicins.

smithsco14 Sep 2024 5:52 a.m. PST

The initial flavor was actually excellent on the first wing because the heat didn't hit right away. By the 4th wing my mouth was on fire and I couldn't really taste much. By wing 6 I was basically numb.

Eek!

I was in a Thai place this Summer that none of us had frequented before. So we all opted for "medium" when asked how spicy we wanted our dishes, it seemed like a safe compromise, maybe it would be too mild….but that's ok.

At the end we all agreed it had been really nice but if we went again we'd opt for mild grin

Did a 1kg steak, 1kg chips (fries) and 1kg vegetables in 30 minutes. The record was 11 minutes….

Eek!

If you're going for really spicy food that you're not used to, don't waste this exclamation on the food intake.

No. The concept disgusts me, to be frank.
