This has run for about 1,000 episodes (not fact checked,) and they feature about 3 restaurants per episode so…..

Have you ever eaten at an establishment that had been featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives ?

Yes
No
What is Diners, Drive-ins and Dives…..

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP12 Sep 2024 3:49 p.m. PST

No idea. I've heard of the program, but never felt an urge to check it out. Presumably I'd have to watch an undetermined number of episodes before I could say "yes" and 1,000 before I could say "no" with certainty. Is there an index? Hmph. No, on second thought I'd probably go back to "Time Team" or "Workshop Wednesday" reruns before I scrolled through a 3,000 episode index trying to remember the name of the place in Manhattan Kansas with the really great breaded pork tenderloins. I think perhaps a fourth option might be advisable.

Yes, I've to at least 2 in the Denver area. However, I was going to them before they were on the show.

Both are great Grammy's Goodies and Bagel Deli.

Been to 5 or 6 of them around Norfolk/VaBeach/NC Outer Banks. In each place they can tell you exactly what they made for him.

Our fact checker tells us that there have been only 540 episodes (for real!).

And there is a list right here of all Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives that have been visited:

No dumps?

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP12 Sep 2024 5:05 p.m. PST

I quite like the sound of Hong's Chinese Dumplings in Burlington, Vermont

I would have to start with the Cucumber Salad.

It's $12.95 USD.

It's the most expensive Appetizer on the menu (for full honesty and factual veracity it's the same price as the Edamame).

Cucumber Salad. I would have to know if a cucumber salad could be worth star place on the menu.

I am less tempted by Dump City Dumplings in Bend, Oregon.

Perhaps "Dump" doesn't have the same "connotations" in the USA…

wink

Being in Bend doesn't make it any better.

Typically he has only been to Jackson in Wyoming. Missed a number of good eats

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP12 Sep 2024 5:29 p.m. PST

@robert piepenbrink – he has never been to Manhatten Kansas.

But, I've never really though about this before – but why is :

kansas – "kan-zuhs"

And Arkansas – "aa-kuhn-saw"

Shouldn't kansas be "Kuhn-saw" or Arkansas be "AA-kan-zuhs" for consistency of pronunciation?

There's probably a good reason. Not some weird one that makes no sense…

Yes, my wife and kids and I ate at one in the Twin Cities. We couldn't believe how small it was! barely room to move around. Looked much bigger on TV.

Abe's Hot Dogs in Kingston Pa should be on the venue, but I have no idea.
Nothing but chili dogs.

Nothing in my area has been featured on the show… frown

Personal logo gamertom Supporting Member of TMP12 Sep 2024 7:36 p.m. PST

Turns out I've eaten at two of the places mentioned: Dell Rhea's Chicken Basket in Willowbrook, IL, (lots of US Highway 66 memorabilia – it started not far from the diner's location) and Metro Diner in Jacksonville (though the show likely was not at the Orange Park location my family frequents).

rmaker12 Sep 2024 8:04 p.m. PST

Grattan54, I assume you are referring to Al's Breakfast. Yes, it's tiny. And only open for breakfast.

GatorDave Supporting Member of TMP13 Sep 2024 2:13 a.m. PST

I enjoy the show and have eaten at 5 or 6 locations.

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP13 Sep 2024 3:33 a.m. PST

20th, if you're looking for consistency of pronunciation, I'd recommend you not post in English. Or don't you plough enough though?

Thank you for the list. A tentative "no." Doesn't look as though he ever stopped in a place I lived or visited. There was a odd meal or two in DC, but his place names didn't sound right.

Disco Joe13 Sep 2024 4:09 a.m. PST

None in my area.

4) Maybe I did, maybe I didn't, never watched the show and I'm not digging through that long list.

Shagnasty Supporting Member of TMP13 Sep 2024 7:19 a.m. PST

We occasionally watch the show but haven't seen shows from the two places on his list we've been to: Mueller's in Taylor, Texas and the Red lion In Houston. Both were quite good. WE quit traveling nationally before most of these places were in business.

I was disappointed to see that Guy had visited and patronized places in Cuba.

"Though he had a tough cold and cough, he ploughed through!"

Tacitus13 Sep 2024 7:58 a.m. PST

Looking at the list, I've been to about 10 or so of them. Mostly okay; nothing to make a TV show about…

Personal logo Sgt Slag Supporting Member of TMP13 Sep 2024 8:29 a.m. PST

Yes.

Ate there before the show: terrible, really bad, food.

Ate there after the show, after they re-vamped per the host's instructions: fantastic food!

It was run by a husband and wife couple. They went out of business a year or two later. One of their issues was that the restaurant was negatively impacting their marriage -- I hope they saved their marriage. Cheers!

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP13 Sep 2024 9:41 a.m. PST

Was that diners…. or Kitchen nightmares?

I have eaten at a restaurant featured in Kitchen nightmares – only I went before it was sold to the "chef" who was featured in the show.

Sadly I sent some people there, I did say "I haven't eaten there for a couple of years, but it was always pretty good." They told me it wasn't so great….

Red Jacket Supporting Member of TMP13 Sep 2024 9:53 a.m. PST

Yes, Charlie the Butcher's in Williamsville, New York.

Personal logo Sgt Slag Supporting Member of TMP13 Sep 2024 10:31 a.m. PST

I believe it was Diners. The building was charming, the staff were nice, both times, but obviously happier the 2nd time, after the make-over. We were really sad when we went to eat there again, a few years later, and we found it closed. The food, the 2nd time, was superb. Too bad, it was in a small town, and the locals depended upon it, I suspect, for a living. Like I said, I really hope the owners saved their marriage, regardless of the restaurant. Cheers!

DeRuyter13 Sep 2024 11:08 a.m. PST

Yes

Been to a number of them in PA, DE and MD. I have a distant relative who works at the Anchorage Tavern in Sommer's Point NJ and we were just there a few weeks ago. He goes to some good BBQ joints as well. I have been to a couple near Charlottesville Va. Barbeque Exchange I think is one. Worth the trip!

Cuban food is quite good @Shagnasty. Cubano sandwiches, plantains, black beans and rice etc. I was not aware he did a show in Cuba, although some places are family owned now, plenty of Cuban food in Florida, unless that too is a problem. Columbia Cafe is quite good. I even had a Cubano sandwich at the South Market in Lancaster during Historicon.

SgtGuinness13 Sep 2024 3:39 p.m. PST

Yes, I have eaten at several restaurants from DDD. I love this show.

Texaswalker13 Sep 2024 6:51 p.m. PST

I've eaten at T Bone Toms in Kemah, Texas, many times before I gave up red meat.

I recommend adding the following responses:

-I don't know
-I have recommended a place that was later featured on the show
