None, don't see them as an advantage. I have green base cloth for 1/172 and a special set of thin hex tiles to make the baseboard for "proper" 1/144 games. All terrain is then placed on the basic surface so a very large variability is possible. Mats typically already have roads on them, some even hedges so they are 1 time only items. To me if they are essentially just a non uniform surface they are a cloth not a mat. |
