The great James Earl Jones has passed away.

My reaction on hearing the news (and I think I speak for all of us):

RIP, and thanks for the wonderful movies and sharing your majestic voice.

I couldn't imagine a better voice for that part.

Thulsa Doom!

Strength and power: "That is strength, boy! That is power! What is steel compared to the hand that wields it?"

Fear of the dark: "Now they will know why they are afraid of the dark. Now they will learn why they fear the night"

Wow. I thought he was excellent in Field of Dreams as well.

93 is a good run but things seem just a bit less with him gone.

JMcCarroll09 Sep 2024 4:19 p.m. PST

He even did a Big Bang episode. He seemed to be a down to Earth person.
"I am your father Luke!"

Thanks Parzival. Many thanks JE Jones!

Loved your performance in Dr Strangelove!!!!!!

Sargonarhes09 Sep 2024 4:29 p.m. PST

He would correct people on that JM. And tell them the actual line is "No, I am your father."

And after reading the line he had to ask if this was correct. Until the film was edited together, outside of Lucas and the editors. James was the only one that knew that was coming. Because David Prowse was given another line to say to Mark.

I heard a commentator on CNN today say Field of Dreams was one of his favorite roles.
I can still hear him angrily shouting at a snotty Kevin Costner when he blamed his estrangement from his father on a book he wrote, "Don't you dare blame for that!"
What a voice!

He was also part of the B-52 crew on the bomber flown by Slim Pickens in "Dr. Strangelove"….

A great actor and a truly great voice. As said above, the world seems a little smaller now. RIP

I still remember him in Conan the Barbarian best, but Darth Vader is iconic.

Farewell, you will be remembered!

His voice! I could listen to him all day. He had a magnificent voice. I will miss him.

Sargonarhes10 Sep 2024 5:52 p.m. PST

Hey Herkybird, are you aware James Earl Jones and Max von Sydow were coaching Arnold through his lines in Conan. Arnold was learning his lines from 2 of the best.

Hi Sargonarhes, yes, I actually read that somewhere, I agree it must have been an education and a half for Arnie, and boy, did it pay off big time!

I don't do Star Wars but he was awesome in Field of Dreams.
