The world needs to know!

Basically there are two main types – a proper solid doughy ball with a (usually) jam filling. Or those weird flat ones with a hole in the middle and some kind of glazing more often than not.

Obviously the best doughnut is the doughy ball of lightly fried delight with a raspberry jam filling and dusted with caster sugar.

But for the sake of debate let's assume that some people prefer something else – what would that something be?

I have to go with any of the offerings of my local donut shop. That would be Old Town Donuts 🍩 in Florissant, MO.

It would classify as FLDS. Favorite 🤩 Local Donut 🍩 Shop……

A bagel. Onion bagel, if you got one. Pumpernickel/Zweiback-Onion since you're asking.

I don't really like donuts. I'll eat one (or 3-4 donut holes) if someone provides them. Cake, no icing. No guts. Blueberries (or other), pumpkin, etc. is fine in the mix. But I wouldn't walk abross the street for "Free Donuts! No Purchase Necessary!"

Krispy Kreme.

Old- fashioned; though, years ago, I did bake (NOT fry) some "Jewish Doughnuts" (NOT bagels) from an ancient Manischevitz cookbook recipe-- very tasty pastry.

Tim's Maple Frosted.

Or a free one.

Either one works for me.

If you ever find yourself in Quincy Massachusettes, Donut King has any and all donuts you could ever desire. The greatest donuts known to man!

Cake donut with maple frosting. Second place is chocolate cake donut with chocolate frosting. Third place is glazed donut holes.

Those are donuts. When I want a filling, I'll buy one of those miniature fruit pies in the pastry section of a grocery.

The best donuts are the ones in my belly. Just don't tell my doctor how high my blood sugar is.

My favourite is caramel and custard.

Saw a sign the other day advertising Eton Mess doughnuts. They were all sold out before I got there …

Jam doughnut. Preferably strawberry jam

Coffee roll or cinnamon bun as some call it.

I did eat a full box of Crispy cream chocolate dipped once, they just go down sooo fast!

Tim's Maple Frosted.

I just had one of those. Not bad, if you eat is slow with black coffee.

Still not a fan of donuts, but we were visitng Toronnto for the DC United/FC Toronto soccer match. Not just visting Canada, but Toronto, where Tim Horton played. Got my pic with his poster in the shop.

I'm more interested in the bottle of Wayne Gretzky's maple creme liquor I got (not yet opened). I assume everyone in Canada has a working grove of maple trees in their back yard and a pet moose.

Of the round variety, cake donuts, The BEST, however, are the
beignets served hot at the Cafe du Monde in New Orleans! Well worth standing in line for an hour.

Extra points for having them with that perfect hint of chicory enhanced cafe au lait.

Ideally consumed at 2am while people watching. Even cooler if during prom season when the crowd looks as if someone transported the extras from Gone With The Wind.

I usually go for the Old Fashioned.

One of my jobs in college was making doughnuts. It was fun, but it had a bit of a Sorcerer's Apprentice feeling at times.

If Bill intends to make this a poll, he shouldn't post it until the first Friday in June, National Donut Day. Or at least wait until then to post the results.

Ooh, good beignets ARE delish! As are churros.

But for classic doughnuts, the only ones I like are cake (not yeast); chocolate devil's food is a nice variant, and some pumpkin varieties -- prefer cinnamon above all, but am also fond of a nice icing like maple or white with sprinkles!

Getting harder and harder to find a good doughnut shop near me. Shipley's or Winchell's are decent chains but I don't see these up here; the BEST is Mrs. Johnson's in Austin, TX! Homemade and fresh and available in many types.

I won't go near filled things.
