Nice.
There was at least one company operating out of the fort near Montgomery Alabama.

The Conquest minis have a wonderful feel of movement to them.

The Alabama and Mississippi French outposts were administered by Louisiana. Their troops were called La Marine as well.

Some call them "French marines".
I feel that's an inaccurate description. I have called them "Freikorps administered by the Overseas Department". 😄

France's overseas colonies were administered by the Ministry of Marine, and the companies were the land forces of the ministry, hence the name. Your description would work as well.

no at all synonymous, you are mixing two differents meanings, the "freikorps" of the germanic countries and others similar light troops elsewhere with the meaning of "compagnie franche" who has nothing to do with that and describes primarily another kind of units, simply a company not belonging to any regiment, an independant company and only that

'Independent naval infantry company' captures it best in English.
