This could include OF COURSE appropriate rules and miniatures. There's at least one manufacturer doing GoT figures. To me, any decent Medieval rules would work. Just add dragons! There would be the first 5 Game of Thrones books. There is the 6th book some have been waiting for since the Truman administration. 🤬 There is the HBO television series that was superb, as long as the show runners had books to consult, and they weren't bored and wandered off for Star Wars movies they never got. Let's just say that I do not consider Seasons 7 and 8 canon, and leave it for future (hopefully) discussions. There are the tales of Dunk and Egg. Fire and Blood. There are series I would love to see, like Aegon's Conquest. I have absolutely no interest in cartoons, by the way. Finally, there is House of the Dragon. I would love to discuss why I think this is the real story, and not "the book(s)". The book is deliberately written, or compiled from, 3 different biased contradictory sources. That's Martin's writing conceit here. Like GoT is written through Point of View chapters. In the case of House of the Dragon, we are watching the REAL story unfold. We are watching what the biased sources ignored or lied about. Anyway, I would like to have a forum to discuss this vast fictional universe. What say you? |

Not my cup of tea, so I will turn it off while you have your fun. |

No, I would not support such a board. But I wouldn't organize pickets, either. In fact, there's some chance I'd buy back my long-sold books if a certain old BATB script writer ever remembers how to write an ending. But I'm reasonably sure the writer and I won't both live that long. And there's zero chance I'll pay for TV to watch a long arc, though I might buy a DVD if the current series turns out to have an end. |

House of the Dragon will be back in ….2 years! After a cliffhanger season finale! Everyone will be so grown up then! |

No. It would always digress into discussing the show, not minis gaming. |
John the OFM | 31 Aug 2024 6:21 p.m. PST |
One question. How much miniature gaming gets discussed in Ultramodern Warfare? Hmmm? |
robert piepenbrink | 31 Aug 2024 6:30 p.m. PST |
Don't know, John. I'd have to click on the Ultramodern board to find out. I always said rifling the muskets puts you on a slippery slope. |
Grattan54 | 31 Aug 2024 6:48 p.m. PST |
Probably not, but I would click on it if there was one. |

CMON does make some nice figures for it. For fantasy figures, they are actually fairly reasonable priced, especially the foot in the started sets. I imagine that I would pop by on occassion, but I don't know if I would have anything to contribute. I never watched an episode until last year. |

"I always said rifling the muskets puts you on a slippery slope." I quite agree. No good came from that. |

Nah. Tolkien doesn't have a board yet, does he? And I hope we don't fragment into any more tiny slices of specialized interest. |

"And I hope we don't fragment into any more tiny slices of specialized interest." I'm afraid that train has left the station. |

Not really, maybe once. Now a 'Test of Honour' board…. |

Hello again John! More boards! Lovely! I don't think there's a great need for this one but no objections if people want it. As said above strange to split down the Fantasy worlds and not have Tolkien. |

Strange. I thought we did have a Tolkien Board. Maybe it's because I still watch the Charge of the Rohirrim as often as possible, and shout "DEATH!" along with Théoden King. Maybe when this Poll runs its course, I'll suggest one. |

I don't mind one being set up if the demand is truly there to support it and keep it active. It's just something I personally won't need. So I'm going to give an Elvish answer, both yes and no. |

Love it or hate it, the TV series is done and dusted. If 7 & 8 aren't canon you might as well just wait for the book, but… The book series is never going to be finished unless another author takes it on in which case we won't know what JRRM had in mind. So, what's the point? |
etotheipi | 02 Sep 2024 4:29 a.m. PST |
What does "support a board" mean? In other TMP discussions, lost to the mists of I Don't Feel Like Looking For Them, the consensus (of those posting, not the entire universe) was "support" means you would have and contribute meaningful content on a regular basis. The difference between "support a board" and "support a specific topic within a board" was that there were sufficient participants on that topic that it would take over the board and inhibit other conversations related to that board. GoT board? I could discuss a bit, and do have some armies (that I think might be useful for the end of HotD2 when I get there), but … No. I don't think I could sustain enought meaningful discussion to support a new board focused on that topic. |
YogiBearMinis | 02 Sep 2024 7:05 a.m. PST |
About a third of the boards could be condensed anyway, as the subtopics within many topics don't need their own separate board. Actually, I would support a cleaning house project for the Editor to go through and collapse boards that did not see much interest—and being cross-posted doesn't count as support for each specific sub-board in my book. |
79thPA | 02 Sep 2024 7:42 a.m. PST |
Yogi, that is the most sensible board suggestion that I have seen in years, if not ever. |
John the OFM | 02 Sep 2024 8:59 a.m. PST |
In one of my previous lives here, the threshold for "support a board" was actually a set number, and NOT a majority. So, 40 positives established a new board, and not 50% +1. Note that boards can be turned off so you can't view them. For example: Next year will start the Dunk and Egg stories. Will we see Blackfyre or Bloodraven? Should Anya Taylor-Joy play Shierra Seastar? The last episode of HotD hinted at Bloodraven influencing the past from 100 years in the future. Wow. Why didn't DnD give Max a bloodstain birthmark? |
John the OFM | 02 Sep 2024 9:05 a.m. PST |
I'll probably just use "Fantasy Media" instead, if this gets voted down. No hard feelings. Has Varys been trying to over Avery's and Robert from the beginning? 😄 Is he really a Blackfyre? Should Arianne marry (F)Aegon? Or should he marry Danaerys? Should Jon marry Arianne instead of his aunt? What happened to Nettles? Is Fire and Blood canon? Is it even reliable? Should House of the Dragon be considered canon? (If Mushroom is to be believed.) |
Saxondog | 02 Sep 2024 2:51 p.m. PST |
Nope….to tight an interest sphere for it's own board. |
79thPA | 04 Sep 2024 4:24 a.m. PST |
In all fairness to John, there is an "Empire" board dedicated to the 12 people left in the world who still use those rules. |
