Can't count the number of time I put an exacto blade through my fingers but I think I recall one of the most horrible things that I evenr built.

It was a Verlinden Conversion kit to make a Sherman tank into a Firefly. For some reason back then in the eighties, no glue known to man could get the turret adn the gun mantlet to glue and stick to each other.

After enough build up of CA glue, I set both parts on fire and held them together until the melting resin held.

Glad I didn't burn the house down.
Never would have noticed the scorch marks once it was painted up. But my opinion of Verlinden really sunk to a new low after that.

Oh. THAT sort of hobby building! When I read your subject line I was torn between Valley Forge and first year at Fredericksburg.

Probably a vac-formed building whose roof fought me for years. As with you, no adhesive known to man would make one corner rest on the walls. I did win eventually, but there have been shorter real wars.

I got the original Khemri Blood Bowl team.
I guess the original skeletons were tiny multi part plastic. So they cast the Khemri skeletons in metal.
CA superglue is highly overrated. 🙄 Let me leave it at that. I gave the whole kit away. I hear that the friend I gave it to gave it away to someone else. Then I lost track when that guy moved away.

I also bought several laser cut MDF buildings to make the Long Island village of Montauk (?) from "Turn". I wanted to have some fun raids. I assembled them, painted them, and stored them in a plastic bin on my cellar floor. Within a month, they were covered in mold. Just like in "The Outer Limits". 🤬

Trying to put MDF laser buildings together. Man, I hate it. so many parts, almost always no real directions on putting them together. Always have something that doesn't fit right. Refuse to buy anymore.

"I was torn between Valley Forge and first year at Fredericksburg." LOL

I have learned that painting in the morning I can not have a mug of coffee anywhere near the table, same for Beer in the evening.

Some MDF buildings, particularly the Sarissa 28mm Chateau, have too many tiny fragile parts that fracture easily when removing them from the sheet. The dormers drive me crazy. I so wanted to use it as Chew House at Germantown. The problem was solved when it, partially assembled, was stored in Ye Bin of Mold.

Many, many moons ago I was building a 1:35 Panzer IV model. I got to the step where you take the rubbery tread pieces and, using a hot metal blade, melt the rivets to close the tread into a loop. I had a candle going to heat the blade and the crumpled cellophane from the model box rolled into the flame and went up like a torch.

I tried beating the fire out with the metal blade and a dollop of burning cellophane swung up and landed on the back of my hand. I smothered it with my other hand. 2nd degree burn about 1cm in diameter that matured into a nice scar.

I was watching Ford v. Ferrari recently and when the boy asked the mechanic if he'd ever been on fire, I caught myself. "As a matter of fact…"

Spartan games flying Octopus. After many attempts of gluing the legs on I had to stop as my fingers were super glued shut. Had to use a hobby knife to free myself. Many, many four letter words were used!
It still sets there incomplete on the table.

I dropped an x-acto knife working on a Harrier many years ago. It landed point-down in my thigh and stood plumb for what felt like ages before continuing its plunge to the floor. Six inches to the left and I might have ended up a castrati!

The Carroll side of the family came from Galway, according to Dad. He loved to sing Galway Bay.
In Fleming's "The Year of the French" (highly recommended), O'Carroll appears on Page 6, and is hanged on page 9.
In a history of Ireland, O'Neill is marching from Ulster to Dublin, but has to make a detour to put down a rebellion by an O'Carroll, a different branch.

So, my family has an illustrious history.
