The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed that an F-16 fighter jet crashed while repelling a Russian missile strike. The pilot was killed.

Some sources claim pilot error, but Ukraine says no. Some speculation that it might have been friendly fire.

I wish Ukraine would change the name of their news---Pravda has too many connotations of the old Soviet Pravda. And that certainly wasn't truth!

Verkhovna Rada deputy Maryana Bezugla stated that the F-16 fighter was shot down by the Ukrainian Patriot air defense system.

Who is Bezuglaya?

Russian philanthropists who announced a reward for the first downed F-16 decided not to pay it for this downed plane, since it could be considered assistance to the enemy)))

Did he go broke paying for all the Russian planes and helicopters littering the area?

He probably is saving a fortune because the Russian air force is too scared to fly over Ukraine.

It's been twenty years, but IIRC, the F-16 has always had a considerably higher loss and casualty rate in USAF service than other comparable aircraft, even older ones- that's one reason they used to call them "Lawn Darts."

My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the Pilot. I hope the IFF problem with the Patriot system is sorted soon, if that is the confirmed cause.

No confirmed cause yet. Speculation about it being a Russian shoot-down, friendly fire, mechanical problem, or pilot error.

However, the Ukrainian Air Force commander has been fired.
