I have had a fair bit of interest in my DIY low cost roads made from magnetic printing paper which do not warp when textured. Thought I would share a few photos here of both these and my hills which are made from contours of 5mm foamboard covered in fleece cloth to match the board. These are featured in my latest short video should you care to take a look :)
Cheers,
Lee.

And the video link which shows them laid out of the board along with explanations on how it's made. I hope it's useful to some here.

Love the video! Looked for a how-to on your ground cloth, but I could not find one. Is it green felt that you paint, to create the mottled look? Would love to see a video on how you make the ground cloth. It looks amazing, and it looks relatively easy to use. I love that your hills are covered identically.

I did similar, but I used indoor/outdoor carpet. It is nigh indestructible, and it will last 20+ years without even aging in appearance -- I know, I used a lined texture carpet initially, for over 20 years, replacing it with a smooth, non-textured carpet around seven years ago. I re-used the old carpet to cover my wooden steps within my garage -- now it is aging with use and grime. LOL!

I used my Proxxon Hot Wire Cutter to carve up some open cell foam into hills, covering them with the same carpet.

I recently added paint to my carpet-covered hills, to break up their monotonous appearance. Thinking of doing the same with the ground cloth piece which is 5.5 feet by 9.5 feet. The solid green color is nice, but very monotonous. Thanks for sharing and inspiring. Cheers!

Sgt Slag :) Apologies for the delay in replying.

The ground mat is a printed commercial fleece available from this link in the UK (below). I selected the 'Summer fields' design as it's nice and bright. I covered the old wooden folding card table with it and have plenty left to make lots of hills! Like you I have used carpet tiles etc over the years but they do require a lot more work, especially for the larger area.

Cheers,
Lee
