Hello all,
I come to you with a plea for assistance, knowing what a well-read bunch you all are.
I'm doing some research on allied casualties during the so-called Phoney War of 1939. British figures are fairly easy to find as a) I'm a Brit and can read/speak the language and b) the archives seem to quite simple to navigate.
I'm not having as much luck with French figures.
The best I can find is 2,000 casualties for the Saar offensive (KIA, WIA, sick, missing etc.)
I would really to find some more granular figures including (if at all possible) some information on materiel losses too.
The more "reliable" the source, the better – archives would be ideal.
I am not asking you to do my work for me (in terms of producing facts and figures), but if you could offer suggestions on good books or sources (especially if they can be accessed online), that would be fantastic.
Thank you!

Remarkable, when you think about it- nobody today would find anything "drole" about a war that killed more than three thousand people in eight months. But to people who had lived through the Somme and Verdun, it no doubt seemed very inconsequential by comparison.

Considering that everyone expected an immediate clash of armies, and cities flattened by bombing, the passivity was very, very weird.I

The 3310 is the official figure of Ministry of Armies.
