"Special military operation: 30 months on" Topic

According to my calendar, it is 30 months (or 2.5 years) since the military of the Russian Federation launched its "special military operation" into Ukraine. This operation has proven so succesful, that the Russian military seems to be prepared to continue it indefinitely, and has since then launched a number of other special operations. These include, amongst others, the following.

1.) Special submarine upgrade operation: in order to improve their performance, the Black Sea Fleet has been upgrading many of their surface craft into new model submarines, that are able to remain submerged for unlimited periods of time.

2.) Special stealth squadron operation: meanwhile, the Russian air force has formed a new squadron to operate in the Ukrainian air space, equipped with the most modern stealth upgrades for their fighter aircraft. These manned planes have been so stealthy, that almost no trace of them has been seen by the ground observers located in Ukraine, despite their best efforts. Meanwhile, airfield security has been improved by dedicating a good number of aircraft into special drone interception operation, which has succesfully destroyed dozens of Ukrainian drones that aimed to attack the airfields.

3.) Special World War I re-enactment operation: to demonstrate their abilities in modern warfare, the ground forces of the Russian military have been running an extensive operation in the eastern Donetsk front, where massive artillery strikes and human wave attacks are employed to continuously assault Ukrainian trench lines. Besides the regular forces, also Wagner thousands of Wagner personnel took part, until launching their own Special Mercenary Operation in June 2023.

4.) Special mobilisation operation: in autumn 2022, the military administration launched a mobilisation of reservists to reinforce the active military. This operation was succesful well beyond the operations, with hundreds of thousands of reservists voluntarily mobilising themselves out of the country.

5.) Special counter-terrorist operation: started in early August 2024 in the Kursk oblast, this operation is still in the early phase. However, it may prove to be so succesful that it will be prolonged for several more months.

It is quite well known that Ukrainian government has been for a while directed by a former professional comedian.

However, the Russian Ministry of Defense has not done too badly on the comedy front, despite only having had an amateur clown in charge of their Special Farce Operation.

On another note, If I count correctly today is the 33rd Ukrainian Independence Day.

I guess that brings up the question of will it be another 30 months before this is settled ? I think both sides are willing to hold on as long as they can, it seems. Regardless, FWIW Russia invaded they are clearly the aggressor …

Back in February 2022, very few expected that the operation would still be going on 30 months later. Certainly not the Russian leadership.

But considering how things have developed (or not) in the past 24 months, there does not seem to be end in sight unless something surprising happens. So better to be prepared for the long farce – though as said, surprises may happen in Kremlin.

One feels Putin is attempting the feats of the Keystone cops but hopefully will be less successful when he leaps out of a 6 story window like many of his compatriots.

Can anyone see the poll that was held in Moscow asking ordinary people on the street what they thought about the recent Ukrainian invasion in the Kursk area?

Most people had no idea… a few did, but they couldn't even point out where the conflict zone was… the young people didn't want to know anything about the war and only the very old people had a clear idea and showed their anger against the invaders… I don't know what Cuprum 2 is selling us…

Murphy, it is known as the Special Operational Calendar. And the proper announcement to make is:

"It is currently day three of the Special Military Operation, and everything is going according to the plan."

It felt a lot easier to mock the Russians when we faced the prospect of voting for one of two candidates who had gone through the primary process, I didn't know that TSA was flagging former Congresspeople who were critical of the administration, and a Presidential candidate had not yet been shot at under conditions that suggested either the grossest of gross negligence, or deliberate action on somebody's part.

I could go on, but you get the idea.

I think he is sabre rattling again for the most part. Just like his monthly threat to use nukes. In both cases this may just be for local consumption. As his war is going much longer than planned and his losses mount in very large numbers …

He knows to use any WMDs is turning a corner, he should not want to go that way. If nothing else, some NATO nations could be hit by VX, etc. as the wind changes, etc. And those chemicals could drift … Escalation ?
