Today sees the continuation of our SYW campaign.
At the beginning, I was all concerned to plan it out before we started. I didn't realise it would mostly plan itself.

At any rate, having trounced the Austrians in the last game, Fred.'s boys are urgently needed to halt the rampaging French.
The game will be a simple seize & hold the crossroads.

It's been given a bit of zest by:
1. deployment will be brigade at a time, French, Prussian, French etc.
2. It's 4 brigades a side & you needed to send your preferences to the umpire eg 3 infantry & 1 cavalry? 2 & 2? All infantry?
Use a light brigade of skirmish troops as 1 brigade? etc.

Things are going so well, this might never end. There's talk of a French army being sent to Scotland to fight alongside the Jacobites ( one of us is building both sides for the '45). etc.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The game went very well – fast & exciting, ending in the French withdrawing as time ended (sunset?)
At 4 brigades a side, not a very large battle:

There was quite a lot of manoeuvring before blows were struck:

A highlight was a cavalry clash on one wing, where waves of Horse hurled themselves at each other:

1/72 is a great scale.

Great looking game! thumbs up thumbs up
Yep, 1/72 is my favorite scale! I only have a decent amount of figs painted for the 7YW in 6mm though. I own a ton of 1/72 and have files to print whatever i need. Just daunting as it's only me doing it.

Thanks.

Thanks for the kind comments.
John, you'll notice British/Hanoverian troops in the mix, above. Now they're a challenge to paint. Not to mention the tartaned Scots who are beginning to be added.
However, the French, for example, are mostly very simple & the Prussians & Austrians not much harder.
Unlike Napoleonics, there's no piping, little lace or fripperies…..except for hussars of course.

I'd likely start with just Austrians and Prussians at first. I have some Revell Austrian infantry painted up. I love the period. I bought dozens of those Revell sets plus Cavalry. I printed up some Heavy Cav a few years back. I should put this stuff in the que!

Thanks.

You & I John are also Napoleonic fans. It is interesting how SYW games are similar to Napoleonic ones but also how different. Very different.

I encourage you to get started on your Prussian & Austrian forces.

Yeah, I could start by running smaller games then keep pumping out the troops. I know that I have most everything I need or can print it. See, there you go inspiring me again!!!!!

Thanks.
