At those ranges the bullet will be tumbling head of tail and require the target to remain stationary. Not taking anything from them, but luck has a lot to do with it.

Yes at those extreme ranges, well I've been told Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity.

FWIW – I remember on the Army Qual Rg. that the 400-meter target was tiny with open iron sights. If I was going to miss a shot that was usually it.

The idea that someone could shoot me specifically at 2+ miles is a major freakout. Now I will be more paranoid than before.

I'm still very impressed by Carlos Hathcock's longest confirmed kill, 2,500 yards or 1.42 miles. What makes it most impressive in my mind is that he used a stock M2 .50 caliber machinegun with a scope mounted on it. Not the specialized shooting equipment of the modern snipers.

The History Channel had some good programs about Snipers. Even interviews with Hathcock and Mawhinney, when they were still alive. As well as talking to snipers for the Army, USMC and Navy SEALs. Some very interesting stuff.
