Somehow, I found the incentive to do an inventory of all of my painting projects.

I was wondering why some of my projects had stalled. (Where are my Confederates? Where are the rest of my fantasy Imperials? etc.)

Discovered I had too many 'tangents' in the queue. I like variety, but I have been spending time on too many minis not associated with my priority projects.

Located an entire 'moving box' full of unpainted lead! It had been hiding under some gaming magazines.

Found my original dungeon scenics made from Hirst Arts pieces. Those were so heavy, the box had partially collapsed, some of the pieces were broken. They look so nice, but I'll have to see if they are compatible with my much larger resin set.

So I have been busy exploring, prioritizing, rearranging and finding lots of things I had forgotten about.

Yes, I found the misplaced fantasy Imperials.

No, the Confederates are still hiding, but I know where to look.

Put all my unpainted Aeronef in one place finally.

Good luck with that Bill.
My mum does my tidying up (in spirit).
You need to ask "What would mum do?"

Right!
I lost my inspiration and don't sculpted anything for months but did inventory instead.
For example gathered all plastic models in one place.

Bill, you may have inspired me to a weekend project of inventory. Anything is better than painting.

I never got into buying and not finishing them, I don't get more until the batch is done.
But the inventory I do every Blue Moon is find what I do have finished

I am trying to do some prioritizing as well -- I am willingly being pulled in too many directions.

Overall, I am pretty well organized. Many 100-200 figures not painted yet. Know exactly where they are what they are.

My sympathies, Bill. Yeah, generally inventory difficulties are associated with storage problems. Once you know just where unpainted 15mm Confederates (or 28mm SF terrain) should go, and are consistent about putting them there, you'll be OK.

Sadly, no shortcut to that--and no quick fix once AWOL lead has had time to find a good hiding place.

My last inventory of unpainted lead was in August of 2020. Since then the last time I tried, I stopped at approx. six thousand.
Since then I've gotten more figures and two reaper kickstarters…

I've got inventory spreadsheets for most of my projects, and a master list of projects/collections/periods.

I update the inventories every time something is added (or, less frequently, removed). I also use them extensively for shopping and scenario planning.

I only check the master list a few times a year. Most "new" collections are just outgrowths of old collections (e.g. last year I added a bunch of 1880s ships to my ironclads collection).

All on a spreadsheet, including unpainted/unassembled.

Sometimes it is best not to look. I completed my inventory earlier this year. I thought I had about 3-4,000 figures all up. Ended up I have 7,000+ painted figures and 3,000+ unpainted. 😂
At least I can find things now.

I still have to complete an inventory of my terrain.

I retired in April and have actually been REDUCING the backlog, also known as the pile of shame. Now if I could just stop ordering new stuff…
