I seem to recall that after the trial by fire of the Demyansk Pocket, Hitler decided to invest more heavily in the Waffen SS and pulled them out of much of the action in the Summer of 1942 to be reorganized. Is this recollection accurate? Did the Waffen SS deploy in the summer 1942 operations on the Eastern Front, or were they largely absent during this time? Was the Summer of 1942 synonymous with Case Blue or were there other operations I should be investigating?

The Second Battle of Kharkov was in May 1942, that was a pretty big battle.

I'd have to look at some books to see what the SS were up to in May to August 42.

1st SS was withdrawn for reorganisation in August 1942.
2nd and 3rd SS were withdrawn in late 41/early 42.

All three didn't return to the eastern front until 1943.

5th SS Viking stayed at the at the front and fought during Case Blue. 4th SS Polizei stayed at the front near Leningrad and 6th SS stayed in northern Finland.

So still lots of Waffen SS on the eastern front in 1942.

Concord has six titles about the Waffen SS. One is dedicated to foreign SS divisions.
I have all six in stock. So you should be able to get them from your local source.
