I'm looking for a completely clear hollow half-ball in plastic.

I want to use it for armored warriors who have a helmet / no helmet option, to justify their lack of helmet in a hostile universe with a clear forcefield sort of thing.

there are some images here:

In 28mm, I'd like to use them for my Space Marines who have a bare head. In 15mm I'd like to use them for RAFM Traveller figs who are in a sort of reduced oxygen atmo and just need a little extra air, so to speak.

I'm sure someone either makes them, or they can be bought as a small tool at Home Depot and cut off, but I've no idea what that would be.

I'd also be open to a helmet with solid "back" that has a very wide clear visor allowing a good view of the face I'd have gone thru the trouble to paint.

Have you considered plastic test tubes/sample tubes?

When I was a boy I had some plastic spacemen (probably 54mm Marx stuff, I'd guess) that came with a snap-on clear, curved, plastic cap for a helmet. They might still be made— check places like USToy and Oriental Traders.

I know some make-up, lotions and what not have clear plastic caps that go on top of ‘em. They're usually just cylinders with flat tops. Raid the wife's stash (over time and when she's done…)

Try checking out Bombshell Miniatures. They have something that you can use. Look at the helmet sets.

I have used the Bombshell Miniatures helmets recommended by Greylegion on some Space Marines. They are very good and Bombshell sent them very quickly.

more examples in photos in my blog post.

@ Buckeye Bob
There are a few good choices, some of which come with a helmet "base" on which to put the clear plastic, some of which are just the clear plastic.

Can you tell me which ones worked for your Space Marines? That would be very helpful as the "contact us" form doesn't work.

Thanks!

The dreadnoughts are the piece de resistance.

Yeah, the Space Ranger theme is awesome, takes the Bleeped text out of GW's whole "GRIMDARK FUTURE DONCHA KNOW!!"

Orks and Commissar Ciaphus Caine are the only true remnants of what 40K really is all about – silliness in space.

Hi Stalkey and Co.
I bought the 36027 – Plastic Dome Sprue R10 that is 10mm in diameter. I had to go and find one as the range seems to have expanded a lot since I bought my ones.

Note that it does not fit perfectly over the head and there is a gap at the back. I will try and put a photo up on my blog on the post linked to above.
I don't mind the gap as it was the best solution I found. Previous to these helmets I used the clear cover from pill packets and cut them to size but they weren't very good and became very fragile with age.

I am not sure what happened to Buckeye Bob and my posts. Whether his is invading mine or mine is biting off some of his. :)

Thanks emckinney.

I was very happy when I saw these at the toy store as I knew they would be perfect.

Hi Stalkey and Co.
I have added the photo on my blog post at the very end.

BenMinis: I dont know how my post stepped over yours. Really weird that….My apologies
Stalkey: I dont have any spacemen…strictly ww2. But it was a slow day at the buckeye residence and I thought I'd do a search to see if I could help. I figured there has to be someone that makes clear helmets for minis…I did immediately think of those clear plastic bubbles that prizes came in from the bubblegum machines….now I am really dating myself…bubblegum machines :) found those on ebay but they are probably too large. Hopefully BenMinis pictures help you.

BenMinis21 Aug 2024 4:59 p.m. PST

No apologies necessary BuckeyeBob. Who knows who stepped on who 😊

Thanks to all, I went with two sizes of Bombshell, the R8 and the R10.
We'll see how it works out.
