I got hold of several frames of Warlord Ancients to paint up as a set of DBA armies for my buddy stationed in El Paso. I managed to get all the armies, terrain and buildings into a space less than a cubic foot. The full set up and how it happened can be found here link

Looks real good, and it's a portable wargame!

Anton, who knows how many replies you'll get to the thread here – but you're actually posting about practical wargaming.

(maybe even more important than the *sizzle-and-pop* postings here on TMP, but I'm seeing that nice sizzle on your blog too)…..

Great idea! Easy and inexpensive way to put together DBA armies.

Brilliant!

What base sizes did you use? What are the bases made from?

How fragile are the armies?

YogiBearMinis17 Aug 2024 9:10 p.m. PST

Those look to be 60mm wide bases.

Anton Ryzbak17 Aug 2024 9:17 p.m. PST

Yes, the bases are 60mm wide, essentially the 28mm base with a LOT more figures on it, and looking much better for it.

My bases are from good quality matte board that I got from Hobby Lobby. The figures are very durable and, when mounted on card, are incredibly light.

All of the minis were from the sets mounted on the cover of Wargames Illustrated and experienced a fair amount of rough handling before they came to my hands, no broken spears or twisted ankles.

I've already started this. 28mm basing so 60x20 is perfect. Cav needs a sabot or just an agreeable opponent.

I've also dusted off Warmaster Ancients. That is a great game
