We could have a poll about why we don't keep a painting diary…

I'd vote for seeing the lack of progress doesn't fill me with joy. evil grin

I do have a recipe book and record colors used on models.

I mix colors to get close to what I did before. Working with craft paints, I can afford to experiment. It is not a precise science, but it works well enough for me. Cheers!

My blog is nothing more than a paining journal. Its so handy to look up a project from several years ago to see what paints were used on a unit.

I'm amazed you got 22%. 50+ years of miniature wargaming, and I never met a wargamer with a painting diary. Mind, you if I'd met such in 1968, the paints and their replacements would both be out of production by now. Probably a third generation at least.

I suspect the people who keep such diaries were more likely to respond to the poll.

I absolutely keep a painting logbook. It's been invaluable in keeping track of base colors, highlight colors, and shading colors. I reference them by name and manufacturer.

I also have a chapter devoted to horse colors, which I use and update regularly.

Looking back on previous logbooks and seeing Imrie-Risley and Humbrol enamels referenced, and my transition to Polly-S acrylics, is full of fond nostalgia.
