Hey You13 Aug 2024 6:23 a.m. PST

Is it possible to get emails for forums that we are participating in, when a new response is posted? Sometimes (read almost all the time) I forget the last couple of posts that I make and then wonder if anyone has posted anything new to that forum.

Search your name on the message boards (under Authors). You will see all the threads you posted in.

This is the greatest opportunity for improvement at TMP. If you care about a thread you have to keep the tab open and reload it every few hours until a couple of days have gone by and you're satisfied no one is gong to add anything. And if you want to address an open question from more than a day ago you need to start a new thread.

On boardgamegeek.com I frequently get notices about new posts to threads from *years* ago and they are very often helpful. I am much happier in that situation, where discourse isn't subject to the whims of time as here and on Discord and Twitter and so on. Conversations that exist almost outside of time are easier to refer back to.

I think you can't get an email because TMP has no way to remember that you are interested in a thread. I wish I could add that feature, it would change everything.

Actually on a Napoleonic only forum I get emails and it's annoying,. I get back to them and here daily why clog up my email?

Yes, it is possible.

I avoid FB and other Social Media because they are designed to enslave participants: threads/topics scroll down your home page, continuously descending into oblivion. There is no means of following these threads as they are updated. The design is such that you must frequently log into your home page, every few hours, to see updates. If you do not log in, frequently, the updates, and the entire thread, itself, scrolls down your home page, being lost. I hate that technique, and I hate FB because of it.

Bill, perhaps a better option would be to allow us to tag threads we want to receive updates on? Quoting notices would be nice, as well: if someone quotes one of our posts, in their message, it would be nice if we received a notice of it, similar to the private message notices we currently receive. Cheers!

I was just curious. Deucey gave good advice. I never thought about searching for my name and then looking at my threads. I am on several gaming forums, and only have a few send me emails, but I tend to come here more than others, except maybe FB, which I only use for gaming groups.
