I was sent a text tonight that the FALL IN 24 convention will not be utilizing Guidebook, and it is likely to be not used for Cold Wars 25 as well. I have provided Guidebook support for HMGS conventions as a volunteer for twelve years, starting with the first HISTORICON at Valley Forge. In my opinion, Guidebook performed excellent service during that time and we were skillfull in making it serve our needs while utilizing the leanest possible tier of service from Guidebook.com. The reason given is that the new registration, Tabletop, will (I think?) be good enough to act as a mobile directory for convention. I won't comment on that assumption, as I have my own opinions.

Thank you one and all for working with me over the years supporting HMGS Conventions. I think we did a fine job bringing this organization into the 21st century during Guidebook's tenure.

Respectfully,
Walt O'Hara

Thanks for all your hard work bringing Guidebook to HMGS shows. This is unfortunate, I found it very useful and much more convenient than the paper catalogs.

What exactly is guidebook?

Thank you, Walt, for all the unselfish hours you have worked to give us Guidebook at the cons. Enjoy your time off!

Sorry to hear this as I found it very useful at Historicon 2023.

I was wondering the same thing as to what is guidebook? I am use to getting the actual printed book at the conventions.

Walt,

Thank you for all you have done for the gaming members, all without $$. I was at the big east cons for the 80's/90's days, so never used your work, but could understand it was of value for today's world. Sorry this happenned this way for you, seems not quite right, the issues at the con were not of your doing. Walk away knowing the gamers Thank You.

As I understand it, Guidebook was a schedule/map thing available on a smartphone.

It was an app on your phone that pretty much was the program book. Last HCON, it was more accurate than the hard copy for game schedule (book was misprinted and lost a few games).

Sorry to chime in a little late. Walt, you did an amazing job. You should be proud of the work you did. Guidebook served us quite well. Let hope the new solution going forward works as well. Thanks to Walt, they have some might big shoes to fill.

Walt, I live in Southern California and the last time I attended H'Con was way back in 2007. But for years now I have been a long-distance fan and admirer of the tremendous amount of volunteer work you did with Guidebook for use at HMGS East cons. Even though I never got to benefit from it personally, I still want to thank you for it!

Some day I will bring a really big game across the country to Historicon. If and when that happens I'd like to buy you a drink, or at least shake your hand.

Yours Truly,

Ethan Reiff
