Battle of Antietam ( Sharpsburg ) 17th September 1862 Timeline 11.15AM The Union Third Division from Burnside's Ninth Corps, Brigadier General Issac P Rodman commanding, is marching towards the Snavelly ford in an attempt to outflank the Confederate position.The Ninth New York, Lt. Colonel Edgar A Kimball commanding leads the way. url=https://postimg.cc/yWLLKbg6] ‌ This movement is being observed by elements of Colonel Thomas T. Munford's Confederate cavalry brigade reporting back to the high command. url=https://postimg.cc/XphxGBkT] ‌ The Union, Brigadier General William French's division has successfully forced its way into the sunken lane and the Confederate defence is being severely dislocated.
