Posted these a while ago but still as relevant today as it was then. A wonderful museum!

Nice work, Tom. I missed that one when I last went to Europe.

Thanks.

That museum has a working (programmed) Panther and steam engine, loads of vehicles, uniforms, even 2 Stukas! There are even 2 SST aircraft on stilts and a separate building full of autos. They even have Elvis' car he owned and drove in Germany. Not very far from Stuttgart.

Happy someone likes the pics.

That's funny how they put sand on the floor. It's like they "flocked the bases"!

Interesting, was the tri-colour camo (4th photo) used in the desert, or is that for Tunisia?

Korsun0. I know the SdKfz10 in that configuration was used in North Africa but I doubt the color scheme was from there. Panzer Colors makes a point to explain that tubes of paint to be mixed with water or gas was in short supply on the east front. That starting in 1943-ish. My sources also mention that the RAL paint for desert also was in short supply. SO my best guesstimate was no for North Africa and that museum staff wanted the color scheme to be on display but parked the vehicle close to the DAK exhibit. The sitting DAK German was a convenient prop? (I have yet to see any such camo in pictures of DAK in Tunisia. Have you? If so, please let me know where you saw it. Am always looking for more references.)

Good gracious, these pics, and the museum looks fantastic.

Anyone have an idea of what the metallic-looking ball is in picture 5?

(land mine?)

Thanks for that information. I don't have anything different; everything I've read has 2 colours until late 42, then a slight change to the 2 colours in 43. No mention of 3 colour which was why I was curious.
Cheers
Jon

A quick look-around view of that German Museum featuring an automated German steam loco that was very common in WWII.
