I'm in the process of slowly building up Battalion-sized British and German forces for Normandy with 'O' Group rules. For the German Battalion HQ base I decided to include their iconic field kitchen, 'Die Gulaschkanone'. Although a 15mm scale model is available from QRF, I wasn't happy with the level of detail and sharpness so decided to scratch build my own.
Although small and fiddly, making the model was quite straightforward. It is basically a cuboid of laminated plastic sheet, 10 x 13.5 x 4.6 mm with things stuck on it. Most parts are simple rectangles so it is just a case of cutting them neatly and getting the sides square, vertical and burr-free.
The completed model is small enough to fit inside the diameter of a one pound coin.
I just need to paint a few more officers and a radio operator and make a table and radio set to complete the command group.
I have some more photos and details on my blog. smallitalianwars.blogspot.com |

Great work, but I think you now need some cooks, not more officers. |

That's why he looks so grumpy – nobody to cook his lunch :-) |

Very clever. An excellent model for battlefield detritus. |

That's amazing! Almost a shame to cover up this custom creation with paint. (Nathan, love the pics with your cat too – I miss mine) |

I know hat FlyXwire means and I am glad you showed it before painting. I recognise some of the plastic rod moulding that went into that, but the "simple rectangles" are not so easily achieved (and squared off) for something this size. That is a wonderful scratch build. |
