I don't think that the Leutze painting should be described as full of lies. Inaccuracies are not lies. Anyone who looks at it can instantly see that it's an allegory. My church has a large painting of Jesus, with white skin and light brown hair. Is that a lie? What about Medieval French paintings of the Trojan War showing Hector in plate and mail? Are those lies? |
