In the Lord of the Rings, the dwarves were wiped out too easily.

The Forge Hammers (a Dwarven militant group, considered to be terrorists by Gnomes everywhere) intimidated Gnomes at the polling place gates. They refused entry to all Gnomes carrying a ladder to reach the ballot boxes. When the Gnomes climbed one upon the other's shoulders to reach the ballot box, the Forge Hammers "bumped" into them, toppling all efforts to vote freely. The vote was stolen! All Gnomes everywhere, unite! We need to take back control of the polling places. Never surrender -- stomp their toes, if you have to! We will not be repressed! ROFLMAO! Cheers! |

It's mostly a wargame site, Grattan. And wargamers want to crush their opponents, not snipe at invaders until they all give up and go home. From a literary standpoint, Hobbits are as protected as Hogwarts--one story-teller, and one point of view. (I refuse to admit Amazon exists in this context.) Yes, you can legally create a not-Hobbit Halfling, but that has its own troubles. I don't think I've seen a fresh one in decades. Even Terry Pratchett didn't bother. |

I've matched Hobbit archers fighting guerilla-style against Orc invaders of the Shire and they almost always come out on top if they can choose their battlefield and employ harrassing tactics until their enemies are exhausted and depleted. Then they move in for the silent kill! Great sport! |
