YouTube's HistoryLegends posted a rather detailed video that covers the Wagner Group's disaster in Africa from earlier this week. Looks like the guy did some exhaustive research on the action (really a mini-campaign) and is able to give us a fair overview on what exactly happened. There are some places where details are rather sketchy, but this appears to be a reasonably complete narrative of the whole affair. YouTube link It has a "Death of Mobile Group 100" feel to it: an unsupported column of motorized infantry with some light armor being cut to pieces in a series of ambushes. I guess these blokes bit off more than they could chew. PDF link This second link is to an US Army Armor Magazine article about the destruction of the French Mobile Group 100 during the French part of the Vietnam War in the 1950's. Interestingly enough, the French soldiers in GM 100 were veterans pulled away from the Korean War and sent to serve in Vietnam. A sort of parallel to the Wagner troops who are fairly fresh from the War in Ukraine. |

an unsupported column of motorized infantry with some light armor being cut to pieces in a series of ambushes. A similar action happened in WWII after Normandy. Where the French Resistance executed a number of ambushes/attacks on an IIRC an SS Panzer Div. Trying to advance to attack the Allies, who were pushing out of their beachheads. The SS Panzer Div. was heavily attrited. Suffering high losses and could do little stem the Allied advance.

Like DBP, another battle that helped push the French out of SE Asia. |

An omission by Wagner's intelligence and command. They did not expect a large Al-Qaeda group to come to support the separatists. Nor did they expect that a sandstorm would exclude aviation from the battle. Ukraine's statement about its involvement in the attack, and therefore about cooperation with the local branch of Al-Qaeda, looks extremely interesting… |

Legion – if you're thinking of the 4th SS Panzer Divisions (Das Reich) march north just after d-day and the efforts of the resistance to stop them that's not exactly how it went down. The resistance did hit some train yards etc which slowed down the Germans sure, but every time they tried to engage them directly they got destroyed in short order. Civilians against a very experienced SS unit. Was only ever going to go one way. I'm not going to get into the atrocities the Germans enacted during the march. Thats documented well enough. |

Yes, that's it ! I forgot some of the facts. . But yes the Nazis were infamous with how they treated civilians, some POWs etc. I remember getting a briefing by an MI officer about this action at Army Combined Arms School. In the winter of '85(?) … I'm sure I had read about it since then … but I'm an … |
