Back in June, Murphy wrote about his new plan, which involved painting figures one month, and working on buildings, monsters, creatures and things like that the next. I couldn't bring myself to do that, but I opted for a variation on Murphy's plan: I worked on buildings, scenery, creatures one week, then spend a week doing figures.
For the first week in July, I painted a package of six Reaper giant dungeon rats.
Since I painted creatures the first week of July, I painted figures the second week. First were four figures from the Dead Man's Hand line produced by Great Escape Games. They were fun to paint.
Next, was a group of Amazons from Lucid Eye to go with my Mycenaean Greek scenario.
Reaper also had a female priestess that looked like she would fit into my Mycenaean/ Minoan world. She is standing on top of some rocks, and clearly has a better sense of balance than I do.
Finally, I painted a Copplestone figure from their Babes with Guns II pack.
All these figures had been partially painted in previous months.
For week three, I switched to scenery, the Reaper Ruined Temple for my Mycenaean Greek games. The statue is probably not technically appropriate for the period.
The temple was also partially complete at the start of the week, so I had time to finish an Acheson Creations log cabin I bought at their going out of business sale a year ago.
I also had time to finish the last six little pieces of swampy scatter terrain from the Bad Squiddo. Just two years on the painting table!
Week four, I cleaned up and painted six Sea Peoples warriors from Newline. They kind of stretched into week five.
For the rest of week five, I worked on a Mycenaean chariot, but did not get it finished.
All in all, a fairly successful month.
Against that, I bought seven more figures from Badger Games and 38 figures from Newline.
So:
Bought: 45
Painted: 17
So, -28 figures for the month
YTD bought: 121
YTD painted: 157
YTD Total: +38 figures
The weekly rotation was different, kept things fresh, and I got a bunch of things finished that had been sitting around f-o-r-e-v-e-r. I will have to try this again another month.
