I know the famous redcoats were dyed with madder for line and cochineal for officers. These both produce a wide range of "reds". From cool crimsons to warm scarlets. The question is what would coats in use have looked like and what paint pigments would be most appropriate? Alizarin crimson is quite blue in mass tone. Cadmium scarlet is quite orange. Pyrrol red is close to red crayon red. Cad red light is a frequent go to red. Are any of these closer to issue? Or would any or all be appropriate, even varied from figure to figure? Alas I don't live near a source for in person investigation. A pigment number or numbers would be fantastic. |

From numerous craft paints, I like Brick Red and also Americana Georgia Clay. Both for the rank and file, particularly in the middle of the campaign season. |
