I saw a thread on Twitter link which is reporting that military historian Rene Chartrand has passed away. Many will be familiar with his work on various C18 and C19 subjects; I really enjoyed his works on the Emigre and Colonial Troops of Britain in the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars.

Very sad – an amazing historian who provided many many great works on 18th and 19th century history

Sad. Some of my very best Osprey books were from him. Extremely comprehensive. His name on the cover is a guarantee.

So sad to hear. I found his works on the French in America very useful.

This is very sad news. I concur with the dumb guy 100%. When I saw his name I knew the publication was worth every penny. My condolences to his family and friends.

He was a historian who never rested on his laurels. In fact, Helion will be releasing volume I of a new study of Colonial troops in New France next month.

Quite a loss.

That is so sad and a huge loss to the military history community.
His works on 1812 uniforms are some of my treasured books.

Sad news indeed. But he leaves a legacy of books that will continue to be read for many years to come.
